ACTION ALERT: Dismissal of Appeal Means Political Action Needed!

ACTION ALERT: Dismissal of Appeal Means Political Action Needed!

British Columbia's highest court dismissed an appeal because of a lack of clarity in law – meaning that there is still no clear decision on when a Conservation Officer can or can't kill animals in the course of their duties.

This must be rectified by the provincial government immediately – no other armed law enforcement agency operates without this kind of clarity of their duties. Additionally, it highlights the absolute need for independent oversight of the Conservation Officer Service so that transparent, unbiased determinations can be made regarding killing of animals and other actions.

We believe British Columbians expect that baby animals that are not a threat will be treated humanely, and that every effort will be made to rehabilitate those animals. This government needs to make it clear to conservation officers and all British Columbians that animals that are not a threat will not be killed unless absolutely necessary, and only after they are assessed by a veterinarian.

Join us in calling on Premier John Horgan to take action immediately through legislation to ensure there can be transparency and public trust of an important provincial law enforcement agency.

Enter your contact information below and a pre-written letter will be sent to the Premier as well as your representative (if you live in BC).
