ACTION ALERT: Tell The Bachelorette and ABC TV what you think about contestants advertising coyote fur!

Bachelorette5-story

We’ve all got our guilty pleasures, and for some of us, that includes the reality television show, The Bachelorette. APFA staff were inundated with messages from outraged animal defenders about last night’s episode which featured Desiree Hartsock (the bachelorette) and the male contestants outfitted in Canada Goose jackets. The above screenshot can be found in the Maclean’s recap.

Canada Goose is famous not only for their cruel use of coyote fur, but also for the PR lengths they will go to in order to “defend” their decision.

Last night’s episode was described by one supporter as a “pathetic attempt at advertisement for Canada Goose.” Another supporter expressed outrage over Canada Goose “hyping it up on their twitter.”

While this isn’t the first time Canada Goose has utilized product placement (remember this gem from a few months ago?) a clear message needs to be sent to companies who choose to align themselves with such a violent product.

There are a few ways you can help:

Write a message on Desiree’s Facebook page. Remember, you can convey that the decision to wear fur is unacceptable without being rude (and perpetuating stereotypes about animal defenders). Some examples include:

“Hey Desiree, you seem like a nice person. But what was with wearing coyote fur on the show last night? Do you not love dogs? Don’t you know coyotes are canids too?”

“Desiree, I wish you the best of luck in your efforts to find a lifelong partner. Did you know that coyotes also mate for life? The coyote fur on the jackets you were all wearing last night were taken from coyotes who had been separated from their mates. So disappointed.”

Tweet Desiree, The Bachelor and Canada Goose. Some examples include:

Is it 1922 or something? What’s with @DesHartsock wearing fur on the @BacheloretteABC?

So disappointed to see #coyote #fur on the @BacheloretteABC.

A show about love & happiness (@BacheloretteABC) showing off a product responsible for so much suffering & death (@CanadaGooseInc)?YUCK.

Let’s send a strong message! Supporting Canada Goose and their cruelty will not be tolerated!
