Cat severely injured by trap near Vernon

An 8-month-old cat is losing his leg due to grievous injuries caused by a trap near Lumby, British Columbia, and The Fur-Bearers are putting money on the line to find out what happened.

According to online news source Castanet, the cat, Bruce, was found by his owners in his yard, mewling and in obvious distress.

“The vet said it was 100 per cent a trap due to the extent, nature and placement of his injuries,” Bruce’s owner, Alana, said. “There was nothing left of Bruce's paw. It was horrifying. All the bones were shattered from his elbow down."

An online fundraiser was created to help in covering Bruce’s medical bills, which will include amputation of an injured leg and likely total over $2,000. And Alana has put up $100 for anyone who can tell her who’s responsible for Bruce’s injuries.

The Fur-Bearers are stepping that up with a $1,000 reward for information leading to the identification and conviction of the person(s) responsible for this incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact the BC SPCA at 1-855-622-7722.

We will share more information on this incident as it becomes available.
