Five places to find fur-free fashions this fall

The leaves are turning, the pumpkins are laughing, and the layers we’re wearing are getting heavier. Before you know it, winter will be here: and the dread of finding a trendy, comfortable, and functional fur-free coat will descend on us all.

Fortunately, there are more and more compassionate companies popping up every day, some of whom have outright chosen to not sell any fur at all. These are five that have made a commitment to being fur-free where you can find your next winter coat (and recommend your friends and families check out, too)!

1. Wully Outerwear

This made-in-Toronto brand was launched last year as Mammoth Outerwear last year with a successful Kickstarter campaign by co-founders James Yurichuk (Toronto Argonauts LB #47) and . Their animal-free products include beautiful winter coats graded for Canadian winters, and, to top it all off, $10 from every sale gets donated to The Fur-Bearers! Check them out online (where you can buy your own Wully) at WullyOuterwear.com.

2. Fjällräven

The Swedish outerwear company is building their following in Canada, and remains committed to fur-free options, and works with organizations in their homeland to support wildlife there. Their products are available at numerous retail locations.

3. Vaute Couture

High fashion, animal welfare, and warmth all blend together with the New York line, run by designer Leanne Mai-ly Hilgart. The company has a commitment to using no animal products whatsoever in their lines.

4. MEC

The co-op owned outdoor company found in most major Canadian cities is also a fur-free option, though they do not have a formal policy in their animal welfare statement section on their website.

5. North Face

Generations of Canadians have worn the jackets of North Face, and they’re another line that doesn’t use fur, though, like MEC, they do not have a formal policy on the matter. Their products can be found at many major retailers across the country.

Please note that that of this list, only Wully Outerwear and Vaute Couture have stated they will not use any down products; Fjällräven, MEC, and North Face all have statements on the use of down on their websites.

We hope that you’ll be able to find a fur-free fashion that fits you just right, this fall! Tag us or post a photo of you bundled up in your fur-free winter coat on our Facebook or Twitter, pages, too, to show just how easy it can be!
