There’s a certain joy children feel when they go home from school and know they won’t be back for another week or two. It interestingly coincides with the heart palpations that some parents have the same day.
The Fur-Bearers want to keep kids busy over the holidays by helping parents out with a few indoor, and a few more outdoor, activities, that will help them learn more about the animals in their communities.
Outside:
Snowanimals! Rather than rolling up a snowman, why not challenge the kids to build the animals they see around the house, like raccoons, squirrels, foxes, or even bears? The same snow rolling techniques apply, and it gets them thinking about how the animals look and behave.
Photography! It’s never too early to start a love of animal photography, and you don’t need a fancy camera to do it. Have the kids look for birds or small critters in the backyard or local park and take pictures using a mobile device or toy camera. Don’t forget to share them with us and a tale of their adventure – we’d love to post them to our website and social media!
Tracking! Whether you have two feet of snow or a bit of mud, this is a great time of year to look for tracks in the ground. You can pick up a book of tracks from your local library, use your Field Guide from The Fur-Bearers, or Google any prints the kids come across and learn more about the animals.
