A Night To Remember: Celebrating Wildlife event a success!

Photographer John E. Marriott discusses his books and experiences with the crowd at The Fur-Bearers' Celebrating Wildlife event.

We gathered last weekend with friends, colleagues, and guests to celebrate wildlife, enjoy the tales of wildlife photographer John E. Marriott, and award those who have done extraordinary things for animals. It was a night to remember.

Celebrating Wildlife: An Evening With John E. Marriott Featuring The Clements Awards was a resounding success, and continued to honour George and Bunty Clements – long-time directors and members of The Fur-Bearers.

George and Bunty Clements were special people. They’re the kind of people that used to come along once a generation: they gave everything to a cause they believed in, a cause that at times could be thankless and painful. But they persevered, and the lives of animals in Canada were improved every day that George and Bunty stood together on their behalf.

In looking at how to honour them, it seemed only logical to award others for their work to help animals. Businesses, politicians, community advocates, artists, researchers and others deserve recognition for all they’ve done. We honoured several on March 30, 2019 for the contributions they’ve made to the lives of animals, in the spirit of George and Bunty Clements.

This years’ Clements awardees included:

  • Outstanding Organization – AnimalKind, BC SPCA
  • Outstanding Advocacy – PJ Smith
  • Outstanding Politician – Meghan Lahti
  • Outstanding Media – Larry Pynn
  • Outstanding Artist – John E. Marriott
  • Outstanding Research & Education – Lisa Dahlseide
  • Leadership and Courage Award – Dan Starr
  • Leadership and Courage Award – District of Mission, BC

We’d like to thank John E. Marriott for his wonderful presentation, and thank our many sponsors, including AAA Wildlife Control in BC. Special thanks to Animal Place (Food for Thought grant) for sponsoring our vegan menu. We’d also like to thank musician Chuck Cronkite for his lovely music and our volunteers – the people who helped The Fur-Bearers make this night possible:
