Inspired by F/W 2013 Paris collections, fashion students at The Art Institute of Vancouver ramp up the runway, competing against students from across North America for a chance to strut their stuff in New York City. The 8th Annual Cool vs. Cruel is presented by The Art Institutes and The Humane Society of the United States. This year, the competition challenges students to improve on an inhumane designs by Marc Jacobs, J. Mendel, BCBG Max Azria, or Jean-Paul Gaultier. Designs are judged by local fashion experts, who are looking for imaginative and resourceful interpretations.

One design from each regional competition heads to New York for adjudication by a panel of fashion leaders.

The winning student receives a cash prize and an internship with a top New York designer. Students from The Art Institute of Vancouver have placed 1st, 2nd and 1st respectively over the last three years!
