The Fur-Bearers take your voices to Victoria

Effective advocacy sometimes means meeting people where they’re at, both mentally and emotionally. And, sometimes it means meeting them where they’re at physically – and that’s why The Fur-Bearers’ Executive Director Lesley Fox went to Victoria.

In British Columbia, provincial representatives – Members of Legislative Assembly, or MLAs – do much of their business at and around the parliament buildings in Victoria. This includes the Premier, ministers of various departments, and opposition party politicians.

Today, Lesley was invited to hear the throne speech, which was read at the legislature by the Lieutenant Governor. While in Victoria, Lesley met with multiple MLAs, including Minister of Environment Mary Polak (Liberal), and Leader of the Official Opposition John Horgan (NDP, pictured above). These meetings are an opportunity for The Fur-Bearers to present concerns from you, our supporters, as well as the solutions we have developed. From creating clear legislation to offer common sense protection for residents from traps, to creating and enforcing laws on BC’s mink farms, and to pushing for science-based decision making on issues such as the endangered mountain caribou, face-to-face meetings are a strong way we can affect long-term, sustainable change for the animals.

Because of your generous gifts, we are able to meet these political leaders, seize the opportunities to present solutions, and provide education to municipalities, the media, and entire communities. Please consider becoming a monthly donor today to help us continue to speak for the animals – and find new ways to protect them. For as little as $10 per month – the cost of two lattes – you can truly make a difference.
