Fur going out of fashion with youth in China

Fur going out of fashion with youth in China

The Chinese fur industry is dwindling in 2018, as a new generation of consumers learn the truth about an inherently inhumane industry.

China News Service (CNS) reported that in 2016 mink fur sales dropped 41 percent, and mink fur coats that were valued at 10,000 yuan ($1,909 CAD) now sell for 3,000 yuan ($572 CAD). Videos of how animals are treated on the nation’s fur farms were cited as a major cause for the younger generation of Chinese consumers to not purchase fur.

Industry representatives told CNS that animal welfare is improving in the country, and that mink are “mercifully” killed, and raccoons die “without suffering.”

But regardless of the marketing terms, the facts remain the same: sentient, curious, intelligent animals are kept in small cages against their will to be killed for a needless commodity.

This news shows that education works – that people are compassionate, and will choose to be fur-free when they see the truth. Thank you to everyone who speaks out about the inherently inhumane fur industry, and for all you do to #MakeFurHistory.
