Helping North Vancouver co-exist with coyotes

The best way to stop and prevent conflict with wildlife is through education – and The Fur-Bearers are proud to be part of the solution for a neighbourhood in North Vancouver.

Two incidents of coyotes killing two small dogs – both of whom were off-leash, in an area known for wildlife, and one of which accosted the coyote involved – rattled a North shore community. Strong messaging was present in the media from the Conservation Officer Service about responsible pet ownership, as well as ongoing warnings about attractants being responsible for drawing coyotes and other wildlife closer to people.

To support this messaging and drive home the message of being responsible residents and property owners, The Fur-Bearers went door-to-door, distributing our coyote co-existence door hangers. These are double-sided leaflets designed to hang from doors – an effective means of directly targeting communities and providing educational information on issues like attractants, feeding, responsible pet ownership, and how to co-exist with wildlife.

Co-existence is not only possible but is scientifically proven to be effective.

Please remember that no matter what neighbourhood, community, or part of the country, coyotes and all wild creatures want the same thing we do: a safe place to call home.

The Fur-Bearers do not receive compensation from the government for the printing or distribution of our door hangers.
