Light a light on the Christmas Tree for the Animals!

Each winter season we are reminded about the hard lives many of Canadian animals face over the cold months in this country. Many of them are preparing even now for the sparse months, fattening up on all the food they can find. Some will hibernate, but all will face the rain and snow the same way they always have – with bravery and sheer determination. They know that they belong here.

But animals in the wild are facing a threat larger than the weather. Across Canada, fur-bearing animals face dangers from cruel traps and lives on fur farms. Though nature can seem cruel, it is necessary and natural. But never has there been the type of cruelty that is seen when a wild, frantic animal struggles for days caught in a leg hold trap set by humans. Nature would never be so cruel as to keep thousands on thousands of fox and mink in tiny cages for their whole lives despite self-mutilation and horrifically unsanitary conditions. Traps and fur farms are unnecessary, unnatural, and cruel.

The Tree for the Animals stands for a different future for the wild animals with whom we share this great land. They were here before we were, and they belong just as much as we do.

This annual lighting celebration not only remembers those fur-bearing animals whose lives were lost for the cruel fur trade, but it offers hope that one day our fur-bearing friends will find peace on Earth.
