One dam good field trip for Vancouver ESL class

ESL Class visits Olympic Village Beaver

New Canadians working to improve their English-language skills received an environmental lesson that took them into the (urban) wilds.

Lesley Fox, Executive Director of The Fur-Bearers, visited a Vancouver-area English as a Second Language (ESL) classroom today to present on one of Canada’s most recognizable features: the beaver. As part of our Humane Education program (with a healthy dab of our Living With Wildlife: Beavers program), Lesley explained to the students some of the amazing benefits beaver provide to all of Canada, such as their ability to build dams that clean water, create and maintain essential habitats for a variety of species, and, of course, how we can co-exist with them.

A trip to look for the Olympic Village beavers and see their lodge in urban Vancouver capped off the lesson, giving over two dozen new Canadians a bit more knowledge about our most iconic wildlife, and why it’s worth learning to co-exist with beavers.

From in the classroom to in the field, The Fur-Bearers help individuals, communities, and entire municipalities learn to live alongside beavers, who provide a plethora of environmental benefits to their ecosystems. This is only possible through donations – from individuals like you, and companies like Green Beaver, who believe co-existence isn’t only possible, but necessary.
