Petition: Banning dog and cat fur as easy as 1, 2, 3!

It’s finally happened – an official government petition (e-123) is online and awaiting your signature to demand a ban on the import and sale of dog and cat fur in Canada.

This petition is not like those on social media sites – it is a real government of Canada petition that has been approved by the government and sponsored by MP Don Davies. As long as we get 500 signatures in the next 120 days, it will be introduced formally into the House of Commons.

Domestic dogs and cats, as well as raccoon dogs (who are a member of the canine family) are raised, kept in tiny cages, and eventually slaughtered for their meat and fur in many countries. Sadly, dog and cat fur remains legal to import and sell in Canada, despite the UK, United States, Australia, and the European Union all having prohibited the practice.

Numerous investigations, including one by the Toronto Star, have documented how these pelts make their way into Canada and onto products sold everywhere.

In recent years, now-retired MP Libby Davies introduced our paper petitions into the House of Commons, but under the Harper government, action was never taken. We fully expect that, with the aid of this new online petition, dog and cat fur will be banned from Canada.

And making a difference with petition e-123 is as easy as 1, 2, 3!
