Residents of the area have told local media that they’ve seen an apparent decline in raccoon populations – and in late May photographed one of many raccoons who are missing appendages.
The injuries are consistent with the damage caused by a leg-hold trap, though the cause has not yet been determined. The Fur-Bearers are working with residents and Oak Bay police to find the individual(s) responsible.
We are also offering our assistance to anyone who may be struggling with wildlife conflict so such drastic action as trapping would not be required.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Oak Bay police at 250-592-2424.
