Living around bears can be intimidating, particularly with the media’s proclivity for sensationalism, and especially for families with children. Fortunately, keeping safe (and keeping the bears safe) is straight forward: don’t feed the bears, clean up attractants, don’t let dogs harass them off leash, and make enough noise with your voice that they aren’t surprised by your presence.
The Fur-Bearers is spending a lot of time promoting self-care practices this summer, and decided to make these conversations a little less stressful and a little more fun by adding colouring sheets! There is evidence that adult colouring books can be therapeutic (but aren’t a replacement for therapy, as outlined in this article). And anyone who’s seen a child of any age hold a crayon and seek a canvas of any kind knows colouring sheets are always a fun activity.
Download any of our sheets, print them out, or use them in a colouring app – and while you’re destressing and creating beautiful art, you can have a conversation about being bear aware.
Please do tag us if you colour and post to social media – we’d love to see what you create!
