Three ways you can be an eco-hero on Earth Day weekend

It’s Earth Day weekend, and we know Canadians love to make their communities a greener place. But if you’re not sure where to start, or maybe can’t get out in some of the more traditional activities, we’ve got you covered with this list!

  1. Clean up! The picture we all have in our mind of an Earth Day clean up is a large group with gloves, big garbage bags, rakes, and snacks for volunteers. It’s a great way to help – but if you have limited mobility, or don’t have a local group, you can still help clean up on your own at your own pace. You can provide baked yummies for those doing the clean ups or provide supplies. You can also check local parks and identify if there may be an area where wildlife-proof garbage containers or recycling bins would be beneficial and let your municipality know to help lessen the litter!
  2. Share your love of nature! Go on a family hike, sit with a coffee and do backyard bird watching, invite friends over for dinner and documentaries, tell stories about beavers and wild critters, or literally hug a tree. Anything you do that promotes a love of nature helps show people that they, too, can love nature.
  3. Support our work! The Fur-Bearers helps communities co-exist with bears, coyotes, and other wildlife. You can help us by becoming a monthly donor! Joining “The Defenders” is by far the most effective way you can help The Fur-Bearers to make a difference for animals.

Whatever you do this Earth Day weekend, from the bottom of our hearts, and on behalf of the animals whose lives you help make better, thank you.
