The Fur-Bearers are always in need of more volunteers for tabling at events, assisting in office or administrative work, and working in communities to distribute educational information or build co-existence program devices. All of these help the animals, directly or indirectly, and help The Fur-Bearers as we’re a small office with a big job.
But volunteering is good for you, too. Studies have shown that regular volunteer work improves multiple aspects of quality of life, and can even assist the elderly in remaining healthier, longer. We’d love to have you come out and work with us. We send out emails about upcoming events and volunteer opportunities to those interested, and have events for volunteers to show our thanks.
Currently, our biggest need is for assistance at events – handing out materials, talking about our campaigns, and engaging individuals in conversation. But think outside of the box, too: do you have skills that could be useful in speaking for the animals? Are you an artist, a designer, a lawyer, or an engineer? Could those skills be applied to our campaigns or projects? We’d love to hear how you think they can!
It’s also important for those interested to know that volunteering is a commitment – a volunteer not showing up to an event puts a great deal of stress on our team, other volunteers, and in some cases, require us to cancel or change plans, taking time and resources away from important work.
On April 6, at 6 pm PST, we’ll be hosting an event for current volunteers and those interested in volunteering. It’s a great opportunity to meet people already volunteering, make new friends, snag a few appetizers (on us) and have a drink (not on us)! We’ll be at Martini’s Restaurant (next to our office at 151 West Broadway in Vancouver).
