Donatella Versace, the designer behind high-end fashion brand Versace, has said she’s no longer using fur – a major win for the animals!
In an interview with 1843 Magazine, the VP of Versace did a 180on the company’s stance (which the magazine noted was still online, calling for consumers to wear “fur-embellished coats that turn heads”). “Fur? I am out of that,” Versace told 1843. “I don’t want to kill animals to make fashion. It doesn’t feel right.”
Michael Kors and Gucci also made the decision to stop selling fur products recently. While the fur industry may claim that the skin of animals is a “renewable” or “sustainable” resource, designers and the public are seeing past the spin: it’s the skin of dead animals, killed needlessly for a commodity.
Thank you to Donatella Versace for taking the world one step closer to being fur-free. We will #MakeFurHistory.
