Petition e-191, an official government online petition, seeks to create a law that would ban the importation of “all animal parts originating from Africa into Canada for the purpose of trophy (a trophy here is defined as any part of an animal’s anatomy used for the purpose of display other than for pure scientific reasons).”
The petition, which was sponsored by Member of Parliament for Port Moody-Coquitlam Fin Donnelly, will collect signatures until July 19, 2016. In its description, it rightly states that trophy hunting has a negative impact on African wildlife populations, and the “canned” hunting of animals bred in captivity is unethical.
As this is a formal government petition, sponsored by an MP, the government will be required to respond to the signatories in writing.
Please sign petition e-191 today, and help protect animals in Africa from the greed of Canadian trophy hunters. Click here to open the Parliamentary ePetition website now.
