The Fur-Bearers is excited to open applications for the Beaver Institute Scholarship for 2023! Are you interested in protecting beavers, conservation, and implementing coexistence solutions in your community? Submit your application to our scholarship program today!
Beavers are a keystone species that provide numerous benefits to ecosystems. Their importance as national icons and environmental engineers cannot be understated. But when human-beaver conflicts arise, beavers are often needlessly trapped, relocated, or killed without consideration of evidence-based, effective, non-lethal alternatives. This is why it is crucial to build capacity, expertise, and practical skills in order to promote coexistence with beavers in communities across Canada. The Beaver Institute Scholarship offered by The Fur-Bearers will support one individual to complete the BeaverCorps program offered through the Beaver Institute.
The Beaver Institute (located in Massachusetts, United States) provides a comprehensive online course that mentors and trains professionals to resolve human-beaver conflicts using non-lethal and scientifically-proven techniques. Students learn about the role of beavers as a keystone species and how to build and install successful water control devices to resolve beaver dam flooding problems. This program is ideal for individuals interested in beaver management, compassionate conservation, wetlands, biodiversity, restoring streams and ecology. Graduates receive a certificate upon completion of the course.
