As the year comes to an end, many of us are taking the time to reflect and make resolutions. One of the best New Year’s resolutions we can make is to help the animals! The Fur-Bearers have come up with four easy ways to get started that will benefit wildlife all year round.
- Make compassionate choices. Consider how your daily decisions could impact animals, whether it’s fur or other consumptive products, or the packaging on products you buy (six-pack rings, plastic dome lids, etc.).
- Volunteer. Get involved with your local wildlife rehabilitator (drivers for injured animals is always in high demand) or work with your local animal shelter. Give them a call or email and find out how you can best support wildlife in your communities.
- Always be learning. From the blogs, webinars, and podcasts offered by The Fur-Bearers, to documentaries on cable and subscription channels, straight through to your local library, the opportunities to learn something new are plentiful – and the more you know, the more you can help find solutions for animals.
- Take time for you. We love all our supporters who want to give their time, limited resources, and passion to the cause of protecting and advocating for fur-bearing animals. But your emotional well-being is also a limited resource. It’s important to take time to reflect, laugh, dance, play cards, or do whatever it is that helps you recharge and keep moving forward.
There are always new ways to get involved in helping animals, and most of them start with being compassionate and exercising empathy, something you’re already doing as you read this blog.
