Winter is coming so The Fur-Bearers have put together some fast facts to help advocates communicate why it’s time to #MakeFurHistory.
We’ll be creating several of these lists as we go along through the season and encourage you to suggest other facts or myths that need discussion – just comment on our social media posts or send an email to info@thefurbearers.com. Here’s our first set of fur trim fast facts:
- Fur does not need to be labelled in Canada and past investigations have revealed dog and cat fur has been imported to the country. This means both that unlabeled products may contain real fur as incomplete labels may contain real fur.
- Fur comes from living animals who are caught and held against their will until they die (or are killed by a trapper) in traps or are kept in tiny cages on industrial complexes prior to being gassed or anally electrocuted.
- The alternative isn't oil-based. The alternative is not wearing fur. However, Stella McCartney recently worked with textile manufacturers to create a bio-based faux fur that includes recycled and plant-based content.
- Fur wearers sometimes genuinely don't know – and we need to remember that. Having compassion, utilizing non-violent communication skills and remembering we all started our journey somewhere can help educate others.
We’ll be back with more fast facts soon – remember to follow us on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter where you can comment with more topics for us to cover!
