The Fur-Bearers is pleased to award our Beaver Institute Scholarship for 2024. Our Beaver Institute Scholarship supports individuals in Canada to complete the BeaverCorps training program offered through the Beaver Institute.

The Beaver Institute (located in Massachusetts, United States) provides a comprehensive online course that mentors and trains professionals to resolve human-beaver conflicts using non-lethal and scientifically-proven techniques. Students learn about the role of beavers as a keystone species and how to build and install successful water control devices to resolve beaver dam flooding problems.

The Fur-Bearers’ Beaver Institute Scholarship recipient for 2024 is Janalene Kingshott. Janalene is the Director of Animal Welfare at Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary in Ontario. Aspen Valley rehabilitates a variety of wildlife species, including beavers. The scholarship will help build capacity for the sanctuary to respond to the need for beaver coexistence strategies in the region. Congratulations Janalene!

We want to thank all applicants for their interest in the scholarship program and their dedication in working towards coexistence solutions for beavers.
